Story[]

The game's story is presented through its Story Mode.

Prologue
One night, GingerBrave is seen running away from a variety of Monsters inside the Witch's house, when he encounters someone named the Sugar Star. The Sugar Star shows GingerBrave a legend of a hero with a "brave heart", who was destined to go to The Pancake Tower and stop the forces of darkness from taking over. As the Sugar Star tries to escort GingerBrave out of the house, they get kidnapped by a suit of armor named Frank, and lose a lot of their vitality despite being saved.

Before they pass out, they send GingerBrave to the first floor of the Pancake Tower, the Jolly Jelly Forest.

Chapter 1
Before Sugar Star passes out, they send GingerBrave to the first floor of the Pancake Tower, the Jolly Jelly Forest. There, GingerBrave encounters Twisted Donut Cookie, who is busy trying to fix the train. GingerBrave tries talking with him, but is told to go find Star Coal before he considers doing so. After finding some in Stage 1-1, Twisted Donut Cookie lets GingerBrave ride shotgun in his train, where GingerBrave tells him where he needs to go.

After going to find Star Coal again, GingerBrave encounters Cherry Cookie, and brings her onto the train; she talks heavily about throwing bombs around. After some more traveling through Jolly Jelly Forest, GingerBrave talks about the legend the Sugar Star told him, when Muscle Cookie and Angel Cookie appear and suddenly join the team by fare dodging. From there, the group heads to the Happy Flower, who is suddenly a lot angrier than normal.

After beating the Happy Flower, the group heads to the next floor, the Windy Peanut Wilds.

Chapter 2
After arriving to the second floor, the Windy Peanut Wilds, the group finds a poster about the mayor of Peanut Parish and set out to find the town. They then run into Rye Cookie, who tells them about the bounty on the Hangsters, of which she is trying to collect. Before being able to reach Peanut Parish, however, the group has a run-in with Barb & Konn, outlaw brothers who attack the group of Cookies and act as the Boss for this chapter. After getting past them, the way to the Peanut Parish lies ahead.
Chapter 3
The gang arrive in Peanut Parish, only to discover that it's not what you'd think of when you imagine a town. With all the residents being forced to work constantly. After going through the town, fighting Hangsters and freeing the residents (Peanut hamsters), they find Cactor, the town mayor, who is not behaving like himself (he is now behaving rude and greedy), after fighting him, he is then returned back to normal and apologizes for his actions while corrupted (possibly due to the oven's influence) and promises the gang that they can come back to the town whenever they want with open arms and Rye Cookie disbands from the group and does not claim the bounty due to the fact that "The Cactor that set up the bounty is no longer here."
Chapter 4
Following Peanut Parnish, the group head to the third floor, the Abandoned Candy Mines. The group travels through in search of the guardian Cookies, in spite of Twisted Donut's fear of the place. Along the way, GingerBrave and Muscle Cookie come across two potions and drink them, mistaking them for drinks. This causes GingerBrave to become flirtatious and Muscle Cookie to become very sensitive. Shortly after, Alchemist Cookie shows up to explain that those "drinks" were Flavor Reversal Potions, which she had hoped to use to change her brother's lazy attitude. She says the drinks were designed to be permanent, but a cure may exist if the group finds a specific kind of flower known as a Floratz. As the group searches for the Floratz, they eventually encounter Berry Bat, who attacks them provoked. Once the Berry Bat is defeated, they find a pathway that they hope leads to the Floratz, which takes them to the Candy Crystal Caves.
Chapter 5
In the Candy Crystal Caves, the group takes notice of the unprecedented amount of crystals growing in the cave walls and the increased amount of crumbling surfaces, as they make their way to the Floratz; there, the Floratz is revealed to have become sentient, and begins attacking the group. Once the Floratz is defeated, Alchemist Cookie takes its pink inside and uses it to create an antidote, restoring GingerBrave and Muscle Cookie back to their original states. Alchemist Cookie wishes the group well on their journey, and goes back to creating an elixr in her lab.
Chapter 6
On the fourth floor, the Banana Jungle, the party walks through the dense, ominous forests, finding a leaf with a strange drawing on it. They then encounter a group of Bana Bana Warrior's deep in the jungle; these are the members of the Bana Bana Tribe. They become hostile and begin attacking the party, who fight back and catch the eye of Plantain Cookie, who watches them through the thick of the trees. Plantain Cookie eventually confronts the party, where Twisted Donut Cookie remarks that he knew someone was watching them. Plantain Cookie asks the group how they are able to release the bananas from their state of aggression - by himself, fighting the bananas resulted in them still being enraged when defeated - only to learn about GingerBrave and reveal that he knows about the Sugar Star. Before he explains anything to the group, he tells them to come with him to Banana Kong, who should know what to do; the party only finds Banana Kong ravenously consuming bananas halfway, and falling under the same enragement the other bananas faced. They fight with Banana Kong, who regains his senses after being defeated.
Chapter 7
After beating Banana Kong, Plantain Cookie brings the party through the Bana Bana Ruins, to try and locate Shamonkey; Shamonkey is, according to Plantain Cookie, where the trouble all began. When the group reaches Shamonkey, they find that they too have been possessed by aggression. Upon defeat, Shamonkey returns to normal, and Plantain Cookie thanks everyone for helping banish the curse from the jungle. Before GingerBrave leaves, Plantain Cookie tells him about multiple Sugar Stars in the sky, and how he saw one fall down not to long ago and possibly land on the next floor; when everyone leaves, Plantain Cookie shows the leaf drawing to Shamonkey, on which the five Cookies have been added as part of the tribe.

Gameplay[]

There are currently 6 game modes in CookieRun: Tower of Adventures.

Story Mode[]

Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures (9)

Story Mode is the main mode of the game, involving GingerBrave's adventures into The Pancake Tower to seal the Oven shut. It can be played with either 1 or 2 players, and currently contains 8 chapters.

In this game mode, all the levels are constructed in stages and chapters, with each stage having 3 objectives to them. If these objectives are met, 1-3 pieces of Star Coal are given depending on how many objectives have been satisfied. In-game, the Star Coal is used by Twisted Donut Cookie to power the Star Coal Express, which is the train he conducts. If all Star Coal is found within a chapter, a total of 20 Basic Cookie Tickets are given as rewards; 5 are given after collecting 1/3rd and 2/3rds of the total Star Coal in the chapter, and 10 are given once all are collected.

Bear Jellies can be found in each stage, sometimes hidden in the level, and other times as a reward for beating enemies. These can then be exchanged at the Bear Jelly Exchange for a certain number of items, with every two chapters having a different type of Bear Jelly to collect and different items to purchase. When Hard Mode chapters are added - which involve more challenging level puzzles, more Bear Jellies to collect, and a Flawless Mode that ends a run on collission - new items are added to the shop for a particular Bear Jelly color.

When a stage is completed, various rewards are given in two categories; first rewards, and repeat rewards. First rewards are given upon the first completion of a given stage, while repeat rewards are the rewards given any other time the stage is beaten. Starting on the July 2, 2024 update, the fastest completion times for all stages are recorded and given titles, and every week, three random stages are picked for a fastest time competition, known as the Time Attack! event.

Raid Mode[]

Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures (11)

Raid Mode is a multiplayer game mode, involving fighting alongside other players to defeat a specific boss. The bosses in Raid Mode are taken from the chapter bosses in Story Mode; so far, only the Happy Flower has yet to appear as a boss in this mode.

There are five difficulty levels to each Raid boss, indicated by Roman Numerals. Each difficulty has a different minimum power level required before you can play, along with a Season Rule for level 4 and level 5. When first entering Raid Mode, there is also a Lobby where other players can be invited to join, up to a party of 4. When cycling through the four difficulty levels, the layout and music in this lobby also change; Difficulty I has a green sky with calm music playing, Difficulty II has a blue sky with a slow drum added, Difficulty III has a purple sky with vocals added, Difficulty IV has the forest set ablaze with ominous trumpeting added, and Difficulty V turns the fire's flames an eerie and blazing blue, with flames pulsing in a circle around the fire.

Depending on one's completion time for a Season's boss, rewards of Superb and Regular Equipment Fragments, Equipment Bundles, and Weapon Schematics (from the top 80% upwards) are given out. Additionally, in Stage 4 and 5, the medals earned based on defeating enemies, dealing damage, and healing allies contribute to a trophy count; every 100 trophies grant one Chest, and every 7 chests has a guaranteed Epic+ reward. Within each season, two specific elements are given an attack bonus of +30%. At the end of each raid, all four teammates receive one of three possible chests: Bronze, Gold, or Rainbow. The Rainbow chests are revealed after the chests are revealed, in which the Coco Drop Fairy turns some of the players' chests Rainbow-colored; the chest given to each player is randomized.

Glass Labyrinth[]

Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures (12)

The Glass Labyrinth is a game mode first revealed during the November 17, 2023 playtest, and made playable from the Closed Beta Test onwards. This game mode is unlocked after reaching Train Level 25 (39,355 EXP). In this single-player game mode, the player faces up to 3 stages of enemies, each enemy giving a buff depending on specific elements used. A player can use up to two Cookies each stage, but each Cookie can only be used once per stage.

There are currently two sections to the Glass Labyrinth game mode: the Labyrinth of Remembrance, and the Infinite Labyrinth. The latter will be released on July 19, 2024 (GMT +9).

The Labyrinth of Remembrance has 10 trials; trials I-III have 1 stage, IV-VII have two stages, and VIII-X have three stages.

Seasoning Dungeons[]

Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures (13)

The Seasoning Dungeons are a collection of three distinct game modes, which each serve as a fast way to earn EXP Potions, Coins, and Ascensionite. Each of the three modes cost 20 Heart Jellies to play, has a chance of giving a random pouch of each's main rewards, and requires an S+ rating to access the next stages. Each stage with an S+ mode can be instantly played using a Skip Ticket.

  • The Hexagon Bee Forest is the first of the three modes unlocked, available starting at Train Level 3 (400 EXP); it is the dungeon where all three sizes of EXP potions can be obtained. Here, the objective is to defeat a large beehive as quick as possible while avoiding Angry Bees that attack the player, Honeycombs that fall from the ceiling to stun the player, and Honey Jars that heal the beehive. The rank is determined by the time taken to beat the stage. The reccommended elements in this mode are Water, Wind, and Light, and there are a total of 8 stages to complete.
  • The Hangster Hideout is the second of the three modes unlocked, available starting at Train level 6 (1,755 EXP); it is the dungeon where Coins can be obtained. Here, the objective is to defeat as many common enemies (from Chapters 2 and 3 of Story Mode) as possible in as little time as possible, with the rank being determined based on the # of points earned from defeating enemies. The reccommended elements in this mode are Fire, Earth, and Darkness, and there are a total of 8 stages to complete.
  • The Ascensionite Mine is the third of the three modes unlocked, available starting at Train Level 16 (10,155 EXP); it is the dungeon where all six kinds of Ascensionite can be obtained. Here, the objective is to defeat a 3-minute stream of enemies (from Chapters 4 and 5 of Story Mode) before they can damage an excavator, with the rank being determined by how much HP the excavator has left at the end of 3 minutes. There are a total of 6 Stages to complete for each type of Ascensionite, making a total of 36 stages. Unlike the other two modes, the first rank rewards for ranks C, B, A, and S are Ascensionite of the corresponding element, instead of all being Crystals; S+ gives 300 Crystals instead of 100.

Tower Rift[]

Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures (14)

The Tower Rift is a gamemode available from Train Level 20 (20,995 EXP) onwards. It involves defeating four waves of common enemies, referred to in this mode as "Mirages", before fighting a mini-boss. Each run of the Tower Rift randomly chooses one of the seven Chapters in Story Mode for its enemies, but the format is consistent in that after Wave 2, a rift appears; each wave contains 32 monsters; and each miniboss is preceded by a group of 12 basic enemies.

The Tower Rift gives all three grades of Artisan's Sugar, as well as a chance to earn different rarities of Equipment, and Special Equipment Fragments; additionally, this is the only place in which Scrolls of Potential can be obtained. The reccomended element cycles in a consistent pattern, changing one step every 24 hours since midnight (GMT +9); the path is Dark, Fire, Water, Wind, Light, Earth, All, and then loops back to Dark on the 8th day.

Champions Raid[]

Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures (15)

During the November 17, 2023 open beta testing period, a locked game mode titled Champions Raid was revealed. This game mode remained locked during the January 19, 2024 closed beta testing period. It is currently unknown what this game mode entails as it is still not available upon release.

Guild[]

The Guild feature was first revealed on the November 17, 2023 playtest, and made usable on the final release from level 7 (2,265 EXP) onwards. A guild can contain up to five players and each player can request resources from other members; currently, the only resource that can be requested is Heart Jellies. In game, clicking on the Guild button shows the Guild member's Cookie representatives moving around a tavern. Up to 30 members can be in a guild, and checking into a guild gives 5,000 Coins, and 50 Crystals on every seventh day.

Guilds can level up as guild members play the game, with contribution points being given out for completing any game mode in different amounts;

  • Checking in daily gives 50 points
  • Assisting Guild Requests gives 10 points
  • Clearing a Raid in Raid Mode gives 100 points
  • Clearing a Seasoning Dungeon or a Tower Rift gives 20 points

At Level 5, the daily rewards given are doubled from that of the base rewards; at Level 10, they are tripled.

Upgradeable Mechanics[]

Cookies[]

Currently, there are a total of 20 Cookies playable by the time of the game's initial release; 5 Common, 5 Rare, and 10 Epic. Only one Cookie at a time can be placed in the Lobby and in Raid Mode, while three can be used per stage in Story mode. Each Cookie can be assigned Four pieces of equipment (One of each; Weapon, Hat, Shirt, Pants), and one Artifact.

Each Cookie is given one of six possible elements; Dark, Light, Earth, Water, Fire, or Wind. These elements are used in a number of ways by the game; specifically, they are used to determine which Cookies get additional damage dealt in Game Modes, and some of the Cookies are capable of tagging enemies with their element. When tagged, damage dealt to the enemy charges up a repeating meter, which deals additional "STRIKE" damage when filled (it fills faster when Cookies of the matching element deal damage).

During the first playtest on November 17, 2023, the following Cookies were available to play as:

  • Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures (16) GingerBrave (Common, Earth)
  • Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures (17) Cherry Cookie (Common, Fire)

Pre-release[]

Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures (51)

Prior to the game's first official trailer, it was known in promotional material as Project B.

November 17, 2023[]

During the Google Play Games summit from November 17, 2023, to November 26, 2023 (GMT +9), an open playtest was released for all users via the Google Play Games beta app. It featured the first two floors of the Pancake Tower, two Raid Mode bosses (Berry Bat and Shamonkey), and a total of six available Cookies. If the player beat the entirety of the available story mode, they were then given an award of 1,000 Cookie Ascension Stones (a prototypical, non-elemental version of Ascensionite), 200 Basic Draw Tickets, and 10 million coins. The size of this reward was due to this being the end of the playtest, and this allowed the players to play the game to a fuller degree as a reward for the remainder of the testing period; the statistics did not carry over to the game's final release.

During this playtest, the game's lobby had a mechanic for passive rewards, known as the Blueberry Bird's Treasure Trove. The Blueberry Bird will collect items over time, which can be collected after a few minutes for rewards; the longer the player waits, the more rewards will be given, and the bag in-game will increase from a coin coffer, to a shopping bag, and finally to a suitcase. When the bag has just recently been claim, a Blueberry Bird will be seen on it sleeping, getting a coin dropped on its head every 10 seconds. This mechanic was removed from the January 19, 2024 playtest, and the final release.

January 19, 2024[]

Cookie Run: Tower of Adventures (52)

During the Mobile summit from January 19, 2024 to February 4, 2024 (GMT +9), a closed playtest was released for selected users via the Google Play store (Android) and TestFlight (iOS). It featured the previous first two floors as well as an additional two floors of the Pancake Tower, one new Raid boss (Barb & Konn) as well as a renewed boss (Berry Bat), and a total of ten available Cookies. Three days before the end of the beta testing period (February 1, 2024), all players received 10,000 Crystals, 50 Special Draw Tickets, 50 Basic Draw Tickets, 1 Random Super Epic Hat, 1 Random Super Epic Chest, 1 Random Super Epic Legs, 1 Random Unique Weapon, and 300 Skip Tickets. The size of this reward was due to this being the end of the playtest, and this allowed the players to play the game to a fuller degree as a reward for the remainder of the testing period; the statistics did not carry over to the final release.

During both this playtest and the previous November 17, 2023 playtest, each Cookie's dialogue bubbles and Cookie menu icons used a specialized 2D artwork; these artworks are no longer in the Final Game's files, being replaced by head icons and Gacha illustrations, respectively.
